  • Frequently Asked Questions about New Faculty Orientation (NFO)

    • New Faculty Orientation (NFO) is one way we support your success here at Texas State. Attendance is required for all new benefits-eligible faculty and those who were previously appointed as per course or were in a non-benefits eligible position.

This orientation will take place in two parts.

PART 1: The first portion is takes place in Canvas and must be completed prior to the new faculty orientation session (Part 2).

PART 2: The second portion takes place synchronously and includes information and signing up for benefits.

Please contact Human Resources for more information regarding NFO.

New Tenure-Track Faculty: Resources and Responsibilities (NTTO) is offered only in the fall. Attendance is expected for all new tenure-track faculty hired to start in spring or fall semesters and those who were previously in a nontenure line position and hired this year in a tenure-track position. This required session is in addition to attendance at New Faculty Orientation, because it focuses on familiarizing you with policies, procedures, and practices that will help you be successful in progressing toward tenure. New Tenure-Track Orientation includes an overview of the mission and goals of the university, the tenure and promotion process, expectations for teaching and research, and leadership and support available. Tenure-track faculty will get more information during the summer about registering for this program.

    • Human Resources will email all benefits-eligible faculty information regarding New Faculty Orientation (NFO). NFO takes place in two parts with a portion available online in Canvas the month before the session, and a portion synchronously. When a faculty member completes the registration form for orientation they will receive information on both parts.

Fall 2023 New Faculty Orientation will take place on August 15, 2023 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. in McCoy 119. Please check your email for more information in advance of the session.

    • All new benefits-eligible faculty are required to attend the new faculty orientation session and complete the canvas course. Any questions about your appointment should be directed to your department chair/school director.

    • Participants* will be emailed about where they can park prior to the orientation date. A detailed map can be found on the Parking Services website.

Parking Services will not be ticketing certain lots (lots to be determined) during NFO and you will receive a temporary parking permit at orientation to use until you purchase your permit.
